Welcome to Dear Emme! My name is Amanda Scott, and I am the designer and creator of this line. To understand the essence of this company, you only need to know two things: sewing and designing clothing is in my blood and I am a literature nerd to my core. (In fact, I teach college English as my day job and have a Ph.D. in British Literature. True story.)
I come from several generations of seamstresses. My Great Grandmother has told me about upcycling old coats so that she could make her daughter the perfect kelly green capelet during WWII. Her daughter, my Granny was an exceptional seamstress, sewed all of her children's clothing (as many mothers did in the 1960s), and she even owned a fabric shop in St. George, Utah called the ABC Shop. When I was a kid, my mom sewed for us quite a bit, especially for Halloween.
I didn't get into crafting until I was married, but it really picked up when we had a hard time conceiving. I was pretty much in a perpetual sense of nesting for the 5 years that it took us to get pregnant with Emme. In this time, I taught myself to sew and crochet, among other things. I sewed my very first dress when we were waiting to hear if IVF had worked for us or not. We were overjoyed when it had, and I began to find intense joy in sewing for my little girl. I later began to sew for my little boy, and I've never looked back.
This is Dear Emme, it's a love letter from my heart to yours. Involving not only cherished heirloom designs, reimagined as playful apparel, but it unites these classical silhouettes with classic literary heroes--each that I include in my shop are ones that I see as exemplary to my children.
XOXO,
Amanda
